Welcome to my humble travel journal!
Contained within these pages is my written and photographic account of the trip Mary and I took to northern Europe during June and July 2007. While we didn't wander as long as the last time we visited abroad (see Europe 2005), we managed to cover an amazing amount of ground, see some of the most famous sights of northern Europe, and--most importantly--had the time of our lives.Where Did We Go?
We visited the following places on our whirlwind tour. . .The Netherlands
Our first stop is Amsterdam. Here we see a lot of Rembrant, canals, and 'coffee shops'. We wander here for a while before taking the train to. . .Germany
We took a break to visit the Rhine Valley, home of some of the most amazing castle ruins in Europe. Our base here, Bacharach, has to be one of the quaintest towns in north Europe. Hiking through crumbling keeps, drinking a lot of local wine, and eating strudel keeps us happy before heading off to. . .Austria
Our primary stop in Austria is of course Vienna, seat of the Hapsburg Empire. An amazing (and amazingly big) city full of the fading grandeour of European royalty. However, this was really a primer before seeing Versailles in. . .France
The last city on our itinerary was Paris, and it really should have been the first, last, and only stop. An amazing town that we are already planning to come back to.Using This Site
This journal is divided up into four rough sections covering the major areas we visited. The menu is on the right. Please take your time, browse around, and please drop me a line if you have feedback or questions! Thanks for coming by!
